Zambia: A prominent businessman has been shot dead by unknown people at his residence in Mbala district of Northern Province. The victim has been identified as 58 year-old Keleyard Simpemba by the investigating officers of the Northern Province Police Force.
He was shot to his death near his car at his car parking and died on the spot. Northern Province Police Commanding Officer, Lucky Munkhondya, has confirmed the incident to the media in an interview.
She also took the opportunity to share some details regarding the incident in the media statement. They noted that the motive for the murder remains unknown as of yet and the suspects have also not been identified by the officials.
Commanding officer Lucky Munkhondya has shared that Simpemba is a resident of Little Poland area. He is also the owner of the Mwandwizi Lodge in Mbala. He had parked his car in the parking lot and came out of the car when he was shot by the suspects.
Commanding officer Munkhondya said the incident happened around 19:50 hours on Tuesday, May 7 2024. The members of the police force have started an investigation into the incident and opened a manhunt for the suspect.
Police Commanding Officer explained that the incident was reported to the police in Mbala by Christopher Simpemba, the deceased’s son. According to the witness, he found his father dead in the parking lot on Tuesday.
According to Officer Lucky Munkhodya said police found the body of the deceased lying in the pool of blood facing down while holding car keys.
She further revealed that they have transported the body of the deceased to the Mbala General Hospital Mortuary. The body is being kept in the mortuary for the post mortem The suspected killers who escaped thereafter did not get anything from the car after the incident.
The members of the community have also shared their condolences on the death of the victim and hoped that they will be able to bear the profound loss.
