Mbala District: Youth donates to people with disabilities

A group of youths in Mbala District has donated food and non-food items worth over K10,000 to persons with disabilities

Zambia: A group of youths in Mbala District has donated food and non-food items worth over K10,000 to persons with disabilities. The youngsters are not part of a recognized Non-Government organization or charity group.

The donation was part of the group of youngsters’ effort to bring new year celebration to the people of the district who are living with disabilities. The recipients of the gesture appreciated the youngsters for their kindness and efforts to bring happiness to the people.

Team Leader Chilolo Chileshe spoke during the handover of the said items in Mbala District. The youngster explained that the youths came up with the idea to put a smile on the faces of people with disabilities as part of their New Year celebrations.

The leader Chileshe said the youths have donated food and second-hand clothes to 80 people with disabilities. The donated items will help the beneficiaries meet their daily needs and requirements.

She named the items as plastic slippers, locally known as bolingo, soap and second-hand clothes.

Meanwhile, Chileshe stated that the money was raised by member’s individual contributions. The group did not take any contributions from outside the group.

Chileshe shared the youngsters’ motivation for donating to people living with disabilities. She noted that the youths in the area realized they needed to engage in meaningful contributions to society.

“We understand that this is part of our tradition to offer help to the aged and disabled, and we must uphold that,” she said.

Ms Chileshe said reaching out to the needy in society is important as it makes them feel part of society.

She reiterated her group’s commitment to continue assisting the needy in society. The recipients of the donated items also shared their delight at the handover ceremony.

Meanwhile, one of the disabled children Stanislaus Mulenga commended the group for the donations.

Mulenga said he was happy that youths have taken time to remember them by offering support.
