South Africa, Bloemfontein: MEC MaQueen Letsoha-Mathae on Saturday continues to embark on Safer Festive Season Operations in Bloemfontein CBD.
The operations yielded the Illicit cigarettes that were confiscated, the arrest of Illegal immigrants in accordance with the Immigration Act of South Africa, unroadworthy cars impounded, and those with expired licence discs and driving licence fines issued to them.
Moreover, MEC MaQueen Letsoha-Mathae personally took care of the traffic as she wanted a safer festive season in South Africa, Bloemfontein.
On Friday, while crossing from the N8 roadblock on her way to Ladybrand, she stopped her car where traffic officers were on duty enforcing the law. The MEC, on her way to Ladybrand, stopped at the roadblock to check traffic officials and their work.
While at the roadblock, a vehicle was stopped by one traffic official and the following issues were picked up:
1. The vehicle disc expired in 2022
2. Tyres worn out
3. The vehicle had an overload of passengers
The vehicle impound and the MEC warns all motorists not to take chances by driving cars that are not roadworthy and overload passengers and they are expected to comply with the laws of the road.
She also urged all road users to take care of their safety as it’s in their hands only. She urged users through her Facebook page. She also shared a message in which she said, “To all road users, As we bid farewell to 2023. You are all reminded that your safety is our priority.”
Furthermore, she shared some of the tips with road users and said, “Please observe and respect the rules of the road without any exceptions.”
Rules:
- Don’t speed, speed kills
- Keep a safe following distance
- Do not overtake on solid lines
- Rest every 200 kilometers
- Ensure that the vehicle you are using to travel in is roadworthy and compliant
