Botswana: The Minister of Defence and Security, Thomas Kagiso Mmusi, has lauded the Botswana Defence Force (BDF) for good deeds in society. Through its social responsibility programme, the Botswana Defence Force reached the need of Lance Corporal Kemoneilwe Aron Petros. The Lance Corporal is stationed at Eastern Military Garrison, Selibe Phikwe.

Lieutenant Colonel Ntungamili Gobagoba of the Eastern Military Garrison revealed that the project was an aid to one of their own, Lance Corporal Petros, who got injured during a military exercise in Ntwetwe Ranges.

The project was to meet the need to assist Lance Corporal Petros’ family; this is one of the BDF deeds to the nation. The Botswana Defence Eastern Military Garrison (EMG) constructed the house for the Petros family.

Minister Mmusi lauded BDF during the social responsibility activity when the house was handed over in Bobonong on the 15th of September, 2023.

Mmusi said, “This project was conceived after realising that this family, which belongs to one of the BDF soldiers, needed a project like this. I would like to applaud BDF for this noble gesture to this family. We all know that the mandate of BDF is a taxing one, and as such, it is not easy to engage in other social activities while executing military duties. Thank your BDF for this house”.

Lt. Col. Gobagoba said the BDF personnel voluntarily contributed one hundred and forty thousand pula only (P140,000.00) towards the project. After its completion, local businesses in Bobonong contributed household items amounting to approximately twenty thousand pula only (P20,000.00).

In their appreciation remarks, Kgosi Joel Masilo and Member of Parliament for Bobonong, Taolo Lucas, expressed their gratitude for the handed house to Petro’s family and commended the BDF for being kind-hearted to fellow citizens.

When making acceptance remarks on behalf of the family, Clement Moyo thanked BDF for the house gift, citing that the family highly appreciated it and that they should continue the good they did for them to others who are in need. “We thank the BDF for this house gift …. From the bottom of our hearts, we really appreciate and may God Bless you”, said Moyo.
