Zambia: A 35-year-old man from Itala Compound in Mkushi District has been arrested for inflicting injuries on his juvenile son. The incident happened after the suspect returned home from a drinking spree.
The suspect was taken into custody after his wife and the victim’s stepmother reported the incident of violence. The police officials who are investigating the incident revealed that the incident happened on Sunday, January 28.
The officials shared the details of the incident through the Police Public Relations Officer. They also added that they are taking this situation very seriously and will do their best to bring the suspect to justice.
Meanwhile, the identities of the victim and the suspect have not been confirmed by the officials. The PPRO Rae Hamoonga notes that on January 28, 2024, around 15:00 hours, the perpetrator arrived home after consuming alcohol. Afterwards, the suspect instructed his son to wash his bicycle.
Hamoonga further states that with no apparent reason or provocation, he began threatening the victim. Later, the father also physically assaulted his son.
As a result of the assault, the victim sustained several injuries, including chest pains and headaches. The officials have revealed that the victim did not sustain any serious injuries.
The incident was reported to the Police by the stepmother of the victim, with Officers issuing a medical form.
Hamoonga reiterates that the Zambia Police Service is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all members of the community. He especially spoke of the commitment to the safety of vulnerable individuals such as children.
He cautions that acts of violence, particularly within family units, will not be tolerated, and perpetrators will be held accountable for their actions.
The people of the country have also come out to condemn the father for his actions against the son. They expressed their disappointment over the situation through comments and social media reactions.
