Monze District: Mother arrested for burning baby

The Police force has arrested Lwiindi Mulilwa for murder after she allegedly poured boiling water on her two-year-old son.

Zambia: The Police force has arrested Lwiindi Mulilwa for murder after she allegedly poured boiling water on her two-year-old son. The suspect is a 25-year-old hailing from the Namakube Village in Monze District.

The incident was reported to the Southern Province police command. Sentrid Simweene aged 46 of Manungu compound filed the incident report on February 8.

Monze District Central Police Station received the report in which Sentrid claimed that Clifford Mutinta had died. The victim was Simweene’s grandson who died after he had sustained body burns on 20th January, 2024.

Daka explains that while on her way to Lusaka on January 20, Simweene received a phone call from her sister. The officials have shared that the phone call informed her that her grandson was admitted to Monze Mission Hospital.

He was rushed to the healthcare facility after he got burnt with boiling water.

After the phone call, the grandmother rushed to Monze Mission Hospital. She found the now-deceased infant wrapped with bandages all over his body.

At the hospital, the victim was being nursed by the mother who is her daughter. Daka states that the mother of the deceased informed Simweene that a pot of boiling water fell on the baby.

As per the mother the accident was later reported to the Police.

He says the infant died on 3rd February 2024 and was buried without postmortem. However, noting that information emerged at the funeral house to the effect that the boy’s mother deliberately poured the water on her child.

Daka states that she was arrested on 13th February 2024, and on 16th February, the remains of the infant were exhumed and a post-mortem examination was conducted, with a preliminary report indicating that he died of second-degree burns.

The officials have shared that the people of the country have been sharing their condolences on the death of the infant. They also condemned the mother for her actions and sought justice for the baby.
