The Mpumalanga Department of Education and Culture, Sport and Recreation once again congratulated the teams which represented the Province during the second leg of the National School Sports Winter Champions held in Benoni High School from 12 to 15 July 2022 in Gauteng Province.
The teams really represented the province very well as they took to the field of play in soccer, hockey, rugby, Khokho and Jukskei.
The National School Sports Winter Championships saw learners from all corners of the country showcasing their natural talent in various sporting codes.
The province of the rising sun continued from where it left off during the first leg held in the Western Cape Province, Stellenbosch, as the teams displayed high levels of commitment and eagerness to win in all the games while competing against their counterparts from the other provinces.
Team Mpumalanga received bronze medals in Jukskei girls and boys under 15 Soccer, respectively.
Both the MEC for Culture, Sport and Recreation and MEC for Education extended their profound appreciation for the team’s achievement.
“The beauty of sport is that it is a unifier. Indeed, in the end, it is not only about winning but also about promoting the spirit of social cohesion, discipline, commitment, cooperation, collaboration and mutual respect amongst learners in the field of play and beyond. The curriculum enrichment activities are one of many other programmes which contribute towards the holistic development of children throughout their learning experience,”- they said.
“Let the flag of the Place of the Rising Sun continue to fly higher and higher.”
