Mpumalanga: The Mpumalanga Department of Education organised an e-learning full-scale pilot project that took place in earnest in Driekoppies Secondary School with the distribution of tablets to all learners from grade 8 to 12 on Tuesday morning.

The Ubuhlebuzile e-learning full-scale pilot project aims to provide electronic gadgets such as tablets to all learners in all grades at the school from grades 8 to 12, as well as laptops to all teachers.

This initiative follows the launch of the Ubuhlebuzile e-learning programme spearheaded by Premier Refilwe Mtshweni Tsipane in Piet Retief on 05 April 2022.

The event was graced by the MEC Majuba, MMC for Corporate Services Councillor Sibiya and Inkosi Machamukela Shongwe of Matsamo Tribal Authority.

The full-scale rollout provides the Department with valuable information with regard to the modalities and intricacies of e-learning and the future of schooling.

In this regard, MEC Majuba addressed the jubilant and enthusiastic learners, saying, “Ubuhlebuzile learning offers opportunities to adapt learning materials that are suitable for given learning styles or strategies as well as the needs of learners for each level or grade.”

Eight secondary schools have been selected to pilot the concept, two in each district. In these schools, all learners from grades 8 – 12 will be provided with tablets, and all teachers in the schools will also be provided with laptops.

This will allow teachers to begin to transition from pen and paper to technology-centred learning. On the same side, it will allow learners to happen not only within the four walls of a classroom but anywhere and anytime.”

The Department is certain that this initiative will help improve learning outcomes and learner performance in particular.

The gadgets come resourced with the required learning material such as e-books, study guides and previous question papers.

Learners are urged to take full advantage of this opportunity and to take good care of these gadgets, which remain the property of the Mpumalanga Department of Education.

For Driekoppies Secondary School, the future of SC is now.
