South Africa, Mpumalanga: The Mpumalanga Department of Education welcomed all learners back to school and wished them good luck for the 2024 academic year.
Department MEC Bonakele Majuba addressed them in which they promised that together with parents, teachers, and the community, the Department is committed to creating a favourable environment where every learner thrives.
“The view of the Department is that learners must embrace the exciting possibilities of the 2024 school year. Let us embark on this education journey together and unlock the potential of each learner,” said MEC Majuba.
MEC Majuba also visited Moduping Secondary School in Marite in Bohlabela District. Bonakele Majuba visited and toured the school, and MEC was accompanied by other leaders, including Deputy Minister of Basic Education Dr. Reginah Mhaule, together with the representatives from the Department of Justice and Correctional Services to monitor the school re-opening this morning.
The delegation further engaged with education stakeholders in the area regarding social ills and crime incidents affecting schools, thus comprising teaching and learning.
The South African Democratic Teachers Union Marite Branch participated in the engagement as they highlighted the unfortunate acts of robberies and crime affecting Marite Circuit Schools.
The Department calls upon communities to work together with the sister government departments and law enforcement agencies to address crime and to normalise learning and teaching in the area.
The Department is hopeful that an integrated approach will yield positive results and instil a sense of stability for teachers and learners to focus on teaching and learning mainly.
MEC Majuba also visited other schools in other districts of Mpumalanga, including Nkangala district schools, Kwamhlanga High School, Moduping Combined School in Marite, Bushbuckridge Mpumalanga, Musi Primary School and other schools around.
The Mpumalanga Education MEC Bonakele Majuba says he is optimistic that schools are now open. He has cautioned principals at no-fee schools against demanding extra resources from parents. Majuba says all learners must be given support material.
