Zambia: The Government of Muchinga Province has started the off the distribution of 422 rehabilitated desks to schools in Isoka district. The donation of the desks will help the School give their students access to better facilities enabling them to learn.
The 422 desks were rehabilitated by the Tanzania-Zambia Railway (TAZARA) workshop in Mpika. The initiative was part of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) contract of rehabilitating over 7,000 desks.
These desks will be distributed in the various schools across the various district in Muchinga Province. The initiative was taken in accordance with the presidential directive aimed at enhancing the learning environment.
The president of the country wants to make sure that no child sits on the floor while receiving his critical education. The donation of the school desks has been taken up by the .
Isoka District Commissioner, Jairo Simbeye flagged-off the distribution of the desks on Thursday. At the same time, he appreciated the success of the TAZARA desk rehabilitation project.
“Today, we are flagging off 422 desks, of which 22 are one-seater and 400 are two-seater,” he stated.
Simbeye urged the education authorities in the district to familiarise themselves with policies that facilitate the repair of broken desks, recommending that such desks be sent to Mpika for rehabilitation.
Isoka District Education Board Secretary (DEBS), Belvin Mwale noted that the distribution of desks is part of the government’s efforts in providing quality education through a conducive learning environment.
“With the supply of these desks, our education system in Isoka has been enhanced,” Mr Mwale noted.
He also highlighted the significant increase in student enrolment due to the free education policy and thecorresponding rise in the number of teachers employed by the government.
Meanwhile, Hope Mwamilima, a pupil, expressed profound gratitude to the government for this initiative.
“The desks will enhance our learning environment and will create a conducive atmosphere for education,” she said.
