Zambia: A 27 year old man of Kabisapi area in Mushindamo district has committed suicide after an argument with his wife. The victim accused his wife of being disloyal to him in a phone call in which he informed her that he would take his own life.
The experts would suggest that the reason for the suicide may have been due to mental health issues, such as depression. The investigating officers from the North Western Province Police Command revealed that the victim hanged himself in his house.
Commanding Officer Dennis Moola confirmed that he had used chitenge material in his house to hang himself. Officer Moola also shared the details of the ongoing investigation of the suicide incident with the media.
Officer Moola said investigations revealed that the deceased returned home on Thursday from a bar where he works. On coming back from his work, he did not talk to his wife, a behaviour that was being considered unusual by the wife.
He further noted that the following day, his wife, Angela Kibokoto, aged 23 went for a church gathering in the morning. Later in the day received a call from her husband who accused her of infidelity and threatened to kill himself.
Officer Dennis Moola said the wife rushed home where she discovered the body of her husband hanging from the roofing planks.
“That call alarmed her and she went home where she discovered the body of the husband hanging from the roofing planks and couldn’t respond,” she said.
He added that she alerted the neighbors and the Police after discovering the body of her husband in one of the rooms of their house.
Officer Moola said Police suspect no foul play and due to the location of the village from the hospital the relatives have since buried the body. The nearest hospital from the village is too far away, which is why the relatives were reluctant to take him to the hospital for post mortem.
