Botswana: The youth department of MYSC teamed up with the sports department for the National Mindset Change Campaign. They have implemented initiatives that empower young people and promote a shift in thinking.
The National Mindset Change is targeting the youngsters of Botswana. The youth department introduced online applications for the Youth Development Fund (YDF).
The aim of the fund is to modernize service delivery, reduce queues, and encourage digital engagement among the youth. The aim of the project is to support economic resilience, funding was prioritized for high-impact sectors that create jobs.
The MYSC wants to foster sustainability, encouraging young entrepreneurs to adopt a forward-thinking mindset. The department recognizes the limitations of in-person events for the success of their mandate.
Accordingly, they utilized virtual platforms for life skills enhancement and employability programmes. These include programmes such as BW Jobs for Graduates and Generation Unlimited trainings.
The programmes will help in ensuring that young people across the country could access essential skills remotely.
Additionally, the youth department has hosted several youth engagements in the nation through important commemorations. The youth department has hosted celebrations for International Youth Day and World Youth Skills Day.
The Department of Youth has used several online platforms for promoting promoting proactive mindset among youth. In the review of the Botswana National Youth Policy, the department has involved youth and other stakeholders through focus group discussions.
They have called on the people of the community to contribute to policy-making and fostering a mindset of civic responsibility. The department also introduced up-skilling programmes for YDF beneficiaries to enhance business acumen.
Meanwhile, the capacity-building initiatives under the Botswana National Service Programme (BNSP) aimed to better prepare participants for employment or entrepreneurship, encouraging self-reliance and career planning.
