Malawi: District Elections Officer for Mzimba District Chrispin Chakhumbira has urged all registered voters in the district to go for the voter registration. The residents must go to their registration centres and verify their names in the voters’ register in preparation for the pollsm
Chakhumbira was meeting with M’mbelwa District Council’s district elections support (DEST) team when he made these remarks. The elections officer was attending a briefing on preparedness ahead of the verification exercise.
The voter verification for the district which will run from 29th May to 31st May 2025. The people of the country have to make sure that they get their details confirmed and registered for the polling lists
Speaking during the preparatory meeting, Chakhumbira informed the members of the election office that all materials and staff have been deployed. The registration centres where people will do the verification are equipped with all the necessary material for easy verification of the voters.
The District Election Officer has deployed all the materials, such as verification machines, gensets and human resources. They want to make sure that every registered voter should be able to verify their details in the system.
Team Leader for Mzimba Elections Team Henderson Kaliati said in the Mzimba South area, they have 322 verification centres where people will go to do the verifications.
“We started deploying staff and machines three days ago, and almost everything has been done. We are all set for the verification exercise,’’ said Kaliati.
The voters who want to get themselves verified have to carry the National Identity Card and the voter registration certificate. This will help officers in verifying their names so as to avoid issues during the polls.
If the people forget to bring the identification card and documents, they have to provide the necessary biographical details to verify their identity. This method can also be used to register the voter and cross reference their registeration.
Director of administration for M’mbelwa District Council Viston Mulungu said members of DEST are ready to provide all the support to the verification process. They will also monitor the entire verification exercise.
