Osun, Nigeria: Sheikh Daood Imran Molaasan, the Grand Mufti of Yorubaland, Edo, and Delta, called out President Tinubu’s administration for sidelining the Yoruba Muslims. The prominent leader of the Yoruba Land spoke at the pre-conference lecture organized by the Taawun movement. The event took place at the Ila branch of the Taawun Movement in Osun State.
During the lecture, he took the stage to express his lament on the Tinubu-led administration’s treatment of the Yoruba Muslims. He criticized the president of Nigeria in his address to the Yoruba people. He claimed, “The Muslim-Muslim ticket, which we fought for, and won, was like a war so Yoruba Muslims could at least live, and breathe.”
According to him, it goes beyond just election for the community. The grand mufti of the Yoruba land claimed they do not want to repeat their experience with colonial masters and Christian missionaries.
He was disappointed to say that even after everything the community did, this this how Tinubu wants to pay us back.
Sheikh Daood Imran Molaasan said that the concerned Muslims in Yorubaland keep lamenting how Yoruba Muslims are being neglected. The community believes that they are not getting fair representation and are marginalized in most of the Tinubu’s appointments. Sheikh Molaasan made it clear in the pre-conference lecture that Yoruba Muslims are not regretting their decision. However, he claimed that history would never forget his administration.
He said, “If that is what Yoruba Muslims deserve in his administration, then so be it. But he (president Tinubu) must realize that he has waged war against the majority.”
The grand mufti called the community economically, politically, and educationally superior. He also said that Muslims are silent because they believe Allah will surely judge.
Sheikh also used the avenue to call on Muslims to form a political structure, from ward level to unit, and network their political structure with brothers in the northern Nigeria for greater future.
The people of the Yorubaland have been registering their unhappiness with the way the newly elected president of Nigeria is handling the appointments into major offices.
