Botswana: The Minister of Child Welfare and Basic Education Nono Kgafela Mokoka organized a consultative meeting with child welfare and basic education stakeholders. The meeting was open for all the members of the education sector of the country.
The meeting was attended by important stakeholders of the Ministry including Development Partners, Civil Society Organisations and Child Welfare Agencies. The meeting was held at the Botswana Teaching Professionals Council (BOTEPCO).
Minister for child welfare and basic education delivered a brief address at the event. He highlighted that the meeting served as a platform to the start of the establishment of the new Ministry.
The aim of the meeting is to make sure that all the members of the organization can come together and collaborate for the success of the Ministry
The meeting was organized to discuss the ways in which they can merge the sectors and mandates of child welfare and basic education into one Ministry.
The Minister of child welfare and basic education said that she was happy with the success of the meeting. She said that all attendants from stakeholders should have an input in the meeting.
She believes that if the ministry can learn from the expertise and experience of the organization, they would help shape the Ministry.
At the end of the Ministry is collectively working towards the new national project which would affext all parts of the country.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Child Welfare and Basic Education Elizabeth Khumotaka delivered the welcome address at the meeting. She highlighted that the meeting featured several important discussions on the crucial issues of the ministry.
The meeting and discussions will help the different stakeholders to have a collective understanding of what the ministry of child welfare and basic education is working towards.
She however urged all the stakeholders who were part of the meeting to focus on policies and legislative frameworks that are currently in place. It is the responsibility of the stakeholders to make sure that the policies and frameworks align with the aspirations and goals of the newly elected administration of Botswana.
