Malawi: The police force of Ntcheu has arrested Richard Banda for raping a 19-year-old woman at Mpira Dam in the district. The suspect has been identified as a 32 year old man who approached the victim when she was away from her house with her friends.
The victim was collecting firewood for her home at the dam forest reserve with two of her friends. The incident happened in the early hours of the day. According to the reports of the police force, the with suspect appeared in front of the girls with his face concealed with a cloth mask.
The Ntcheu Police Station Public Relations Officer Inspector Jacob Khembo shared the details of the incident with the media. According to the police report, the incident happened on April 2 when the victim saw the suspect holding a knife.
The victim was intimidated by the suspect and tried to leave the place to get away from him. The three girls started to run from the suspect when the victim fell down.
The other two girls managed to leave while the suspect demanded that the victim must get intimate with him. As the 19 year old girl was scared of the armed male, she agreed to co-operate with him.
Further, the Police Public Relations officer shared that the victim identified the suspect even though he was wearing a cloth mask. After the incident the suspect reported the matter to the people of her village.
She also informed the villagers about the identity of the culprit after which the villagers tracked him down. They further apprehend him and reported the matter to the police.
The officials took Banda to Ntcheu Police Station while the victim was sent to the district hospital for examination and treatment.
The suspect will appear before court for the crime of raping the 19 year old.
According to the police force, Banda is a resident of the Chinkuluchina Village in Traditional Authority Kwataine in Ntcheu. Meanwhile the victim lives In T/A Champiti in the same district.
