South Africa: The Reaction Unit South Africa has received the reports of a fatal accident at the R102 in Verulam – KZN. The accident happened on Friday when the deceased was trying to cross the road and was struck by a light vehicle.
The vehicle was speeding along the freeway when the victim tried to cross the road to the other side of the road. On seeing the accident, members of the public reached out to the Reaction Unit South Africa for assistance.
The officials have shared that the Operations Centre received a call for assistance at approximately 15:42. Afterwards, a team of RUSA officials and paramedics was dispatched to the accident site.
When the officials reached the site, they found that the pedestrian had sustained life threatening injuries. The pedestrian was stabilized on the scene by the paramedics before he was rushed off to the police.
The recent updates suggest that the victim was pronounced dead shortly after he reached the hospital. Further, the officials have shared that they interrogated the driver of the vehicle which caused the accident.
He shared that he was driving silver Hyundai i10 on the northbound lane of the R102 between Canelands and Verulam – KZN. This was when the pedestrian suddenly fled into his path of travel when he was struck.
The reaction officers have confirmed that the occupants of the vehicle were not injured in the collision. The officials have not shared any further updates on the actions being taken in this case.
The KwaZulu-Natal Area has been experiencing a surge in road traffic accidents which has led to many lives being lost. The people have demanded that the government must do their part in finding a solution for the issue.
Meanwhile, the people of the country have also come out to share their views on the situation. The people have defended the driver as the freeway gives precedence to the drivers. Further it is the responsibility of the pedestrian to be careful while crossing the road.
The people of the country have extended their condolences to the family of the victim who lost his life in the tragic accident.
