Dominica: The Prime Minister of Dominica, Dr Roosvelt Skerrit has congratulated the new head of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Leo XIV. The new pope and head of the catholics was elected into the papacy on Thursday.
The government and people of Dominica have also extended their best wishes to the new pope. Pope Leo XIV is the 267th pontiff of the Roman Catholic Church.
He was elected into the position after the death of the previous pope after a long health crisis on Thursday. The people of the Vatican City have already greeted the pope when he came to the Church Balcony after being declared the next pope and successor of Pope Francis.
The rest of the world is also welcoming the religious leader with open arms. The Prime Minister of Dominica hopes that the leadership of the new pope will be marked with peace and spiritual strength.
The Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit highlighted that the election of the pope comes at a time when the world is facing many problems. The world is need of guidance and support in many areas which Pope Leo can provide.
Conflicts and inequality are some of the most pressing issues that the world is currently facing. As such, people need a way towards peace and unity. In this regard, the pope can serve as a symbol of renewal and hope.
The Prime Minister also said that the election of the new leader of the Roman Catholic Church is reminding us that faith constantly invites us to rebuild, reconcile and recommit to the service of others.
He added that the people of the Commonwealth of Dominica look forward to the guidance of Pope Leo XIV. The population of the country looks towards the pope as a leader who who possesses moral clarity, justice and mercy.
Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit further hoped that Pope Leo’s tenure as the head of the Catholic Church can inspire people all over the world.
