Dominica leaders gathered at fourth meeting of the third-session of the 11th Parliament on Tuesday, Nov 25, 2025 under the Constitution.
During the parliament session Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit compiled all the works done to develop the Commonwealth of Dominica. He stated that the government has always been transparent in explaining how the public funds are used across the national projects.
Skerrit Highlights True Cost of Building Roads in Dominica
Dr. Skerrit highlighted major infrastructure projects across Dominica that are clearly visible and measurable by the citizens. He mentioned about the road construction in Dominica which is extremely expensive due to terrain, rivers and natural challenges.
The Castries Kalinago Territory Road Project is required to build five permanent bridges and five temporary bridges. And the project cost has increased from EC $126 million to EC $226 million due to its re-design and occurrence of natural disasters. He stated that heavy rainfall and climatic conditions force constant re-design and additional safety measures.
According to PM Skerrit, massive culverts and drainage systems were necessary and are greatly increasing the constructions costs. He unveiled that the government of Dominica has compensate landowners fairly, and even those without the formal land titles.
CBI Funds Transforms Dominica’s Future
PM Roosevelt Skerrit stated that the significant funds have been paid for trees and crops that are affected by road construction. He further added that investment in infrastructure has boosted development and land value in rural communities.
Skerrit also mentioned about the improved roads that have increased access to agriculture, tourism and housing development. The government continues to resurface and expand the road projects nationwide.
The infrastructure development of Dominica is considered among the most advanced progress in the Caribbean region. Such as the Housing Programmes that has transformed lives and improved dignity and living standards of the citizens. He exclaimed that most housing projects are funded through Citizenship by Investment (CBI) proceeds.
100% Renewable Energy by 2030
Prime Minister Skerrit also stated about the renewable energy projects that majorly includes Geothermal Power Plant and aims to reduce diesel dependency. With this, the government aims for 100% renewable energy by 2030.
He also talked about tourism sector that has grown significantly with increased airline flights and visitor arrivals. The infrastructure upgrade at the airport have improved flight safety and capacity.
Dominica PM has also stressed upon the social programs and initiative taken for employment that have helped in reducing poverty and increase economic stability.
