Dominica: Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit met with the Chief Executive of Hong Kong – John Lee for discussions that aimed to deepen cooperation between Dominica and Hong Kong.
The discussions in meeting focused mainly on enhancing bilateral trade, to foster business exchanges and explore new avenues for collaboration. PM Skerrit also met with the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Developemnt – Algernon Yau.
Reportedly, the high-level meeting highlighted their commitments to expand diplomatic and trade relations, to build stronger business ties and explore mutually beneficial opportunities across diverse sectors.
Discussions between PM Skerrit and John Lee emphasised on Hong Kong’s prominent status as the world’s freest economy and its recent ranking as the third top international financial centre at global level, and the first in the Asia Pacific region, according to the latest Global Financial Centres Index.
They also highlighted the HKSAR Government’s commitment to leverage the advantages afforded by the ‘One Country, Two Systems’ principle. The Chief Executive of Hong Kong – John Lee expressed a keen interest in enhancing international exchanges that are particularly with emerging markets as Dominica.
Lee acknowledged the role of Dominica as an economy within the Belt and Road framework and strategic position of Hong Kong as a vital link in the Belt and Road Initiative. He encouraged businesses from Dominica to capitalise on connectivity, professional services and market-oriented environment of Hong Kong to expand their reach into overseas and Mainland markets, thereby mutually benefitting from the opportunities presented by the Belt and Road Initiative.
Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of Hong Kong – Algernon Yau highlighted the potential for trade missions and investment forums to further advance the commercial cooperation. Both the nations agreed to explore mechanisms that would facilitate smoother business exchanges, knowledge sharing and cultural engagement between Dominica and Hong Kong.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both leaders reaffirming their shared commitment to foster stronger ties and building a foundation for long-term cooperation. This engagement marked an important step in Dominica’s ongoing efforts to expand its global partnerships and strengthen its presence in key international markets.
