Dominica: Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit met with the trainees of the Youth Development Division at the Marigot Youth Centre on Wednesday, Jan 08, 2026. These trainees are part of the Heavy Equipment Operations Programme.
PM Skerrit engaged with these young people in a meaningful conversation before visiting the construction site of the Dominica International Airport. There he commended youth for selecting a programme that equips them with practical skills and opens doors to employment across the major national projects, such as International Airport, Port Development and other major infrastructure works.
During his interaction with the trainees, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit highlighted the programme that goes beyond a single role. This programme has introduced trainees to a range of career paths within the heavy equipment and construction sector.
On his visit, PM Skerrit also announced further plans of Dominica Government to facilitate on-the-job attachments for trainees upon the completion of the programme in collaboration with the Youth Development Division.
His visit also observed a question-and-answer session with the trainees, as youngsters interrogated the Prime Minister and cleared their doubts. PM Skerrit interacted mindfully with the trainees while concluding his meeting, before proceeding for his visit to the Dominica International Airport construction site.
Reportedly, the Youth Development Division programme commenced the Heavy Equipment Training Module in Marigot. It engaged 26 trainees on Monday, Nov 17, 2025.
The Youth Development Division officially shared the glimpses of the photos from the trainees who were in attendance at the first Orientation Session that included 4 young females and 22 young males.
These photos also showed the participants at the Conflict Mitigation Orientation (CMO), which will be conducted for 3 days from Nov 18th to 20th. There were 22 trainees which included 3 females and 19 males at CMO.
This programme mainly includes hands-on training with regular workshop sessions that educate them and train them how to practice and enhance their skills.
