Dominica: Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit attended the official opening ceremony of Ocean Oasis Hotel. He called the project a symbol of confidence, progress, and national pride.
It was an occasion of ‘proud moment’ for the developer – Floyd Capitolin, and for the people of Dominica, who is continuously demonstrating the resilience and ambition in building a modern and dynamic nation.
PM Skerrit reflected on the early stages of the development and recalled conversations with Capitolin, whose vision and conviction to create something exceptional along the coastline remained unwavering from the beginning. He said that Capitolin’s passion was genuine. He saw what a world-class hotel property could look like along the seashore.
The Prime Minister praised the dedication of the developer and expressed pride in seeing the project getting completed to such a high standard.
Skerrit emphasised that every new development sends a clear message that Dominica is developing and moving forward. According to him, Ocean Oasis Hotel stands as a bold vote of confidence in the economy of the country, its people, and its direction.
He underscored that national development is driven by government but by partnerships, investors, entrepreneurs and citizens who believe in the nation’s potential.
The Prime Minister highlighted Ocean Oasis as a powerful example of how local individuals can dream big and achieve success. He encouraged contractors, farmers, young entrepreneurs, and service providers to see themselves reflected in such projects. He assured that once you are serious about progress and contributing to Dominica’s development, the doors are open.
Dr. Skerrit also credited the Citizenship by Investment (CBI) Programme for enabling transformative projects such as Ocean Oasis. He reaffirmed the commitment of government to transparency, strong regulatory standards, and regional cooperation within the CBI industry.
He noted that the programme, continues to support national priorities from infrastructure and education to agriculture, manufacturing and small business development.
Also, PM Skerrit marked that the hotel’s development, exemplifies how properly managed investments can deliver broad economic benefits. During its construction, dozens of jobs were created, and now that the property is operational, opportunities have extended even further into hospitality, transportation, agriculture, creative industries and tourism services.
He added that this is how development should work and it should ripple through communities, lifting people and creating shared achievement.
Skerrit praised the developers for prioritising local employment and training by describing investment in people as the most meaningful contribution, that any investor can make. He emphasised that Dominica is entering a period of great promise, with major initiatives such as the international airport, geothermal energy development, and the Roseau Enhancement Project progressing steadily.
In closing, the Prime Minister urged Dominicans to celebrate success, uplift one another, and recognise that every positive development benefits the entire nation.
He encouraged citizens to use their talents constructively, form partnerships, and bring forward new ideas for investment. “When we dream together, work together and believe together, there is no limit to what we can achieve,” stated PM Skerrit.
