Dominica: Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit visited to the Calibishie Primary School and Anse de Mai Jetty construction sites on Thursday, Dec 04, 2025. While touring the major projects they examined the work in progress, interacted and had conversation with the residents in the North.
Dr. Skerrit visited to the sites with Education Minister Octavia Alfred, Parliamentary Representative Lakeyia Joseph, Chinese Ambassador Lu Kun and senior officials toured the site to assess the progress. Their visit highlighted the progress of the project and its importance to the community.
Calibishie Primary School
The Calibishie Primary School is being reconstructed on its original ground and will consist of 21 rooms, including:
- eight classrooms,
- a computer lab,
- computer prep room,
- preschool class,
- library,
- principal’s office,
- sick bay,
- counselling room,
- teacher’s office,
- duty room,
- dining hall,
- two food preparation rooms, and
- a domestic water pump room
One opened, the school will accommodate approximately 100 students. PM Skerrit noted that the design of the school includes robust structural features making it hurricane resilient.
Considering their visit, Prime Minister Skerrit said that he is “very satisfied with the progress.” He stressed that the work is on schedule and the quality “appears to be of high standards.”
He thanked the People’s Republic of China for providing the grant and support to the project. He emphasised that the new school will be offering a safer and more conducive environment for learning.
Anse de Mai Jetty
During their visit Prime Minister Skerrit also visited the Anse de Mai Jetty site to assess the ongoing work on the new modern facility. Their visit aimed to oversee the progress on modern jetty, which is being constructed to support fishermen, improve export facilities and strengthen community resilience.
The Anse de Mai Jetty is a key northeast Dominica port situated between Calibishie and Portsmouth. The place supports local fishing, trading and serves as an official entry point for the vessels.
It is a significant development project signed by the Government of Dominica with a local firm Offshore Civil & Marine Inc. valued at EC$4,075,350 and solidified the undertaking on Friday, May 02, 2025.
The officials noted that both the projects will transform Dominica and will restore the community space. These projects will benefit the residents as over 30 local workers are employed from Calibishie, Kalinago Territory, etc. and many materials were sourced locally.
