Dominica: Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit visited the CBI funded Center, Grand Bay Housing Development project site on Thursday, Nov 27, 2025. He was accompanied by members of Cabinet to observe the work in progress.
Dr. Skerrit inspected the new housing development site which is one of the several major projects advancing across the island. The project includes:
- 93 standalone homes
- a gas station
- magistrate’s house
- fire station, and
- community center
The Grand Bay Housing Development project is a part of Dominica’s commitment to expand access to safe and climate-resilient homes.
Also, he got an overview of the Bellevue Chopin and Tete Morne Primary School construction work, progressing on schedule. These both schools were damaged during the hurricane Maria which are part of the Chinese aid project through which the government of China will construct and rehabilitate six schools across the island.
PM Skerrit stated that they are happy to be at the Bellevue Chopin Primary School. He praised the engineers for excellent work that is structurally sound. He highlighted that these buildings can with stand natural calamities such as hurricanes and earthquakes.
These buildings will last for very long time for many generations to come and this all is a part of the resilience building. The ministers have came along with the ambassadors to view the progress. They are also at the Tete Morne Primary School and are very happy that these schools are in the south of the country.
PM Skerrit further stated that all of the students, parents and teachers are looking forward to the completion of the schools, so that they can move in there permanently and more comfortably, considering the conducive environments for learning.
Furthermore, Prime Minister Skerrit described the schools as major investments in transforming the education system of the country.
Dr. Skerrit stated that they are grateful to the government and people of the Republic of China who have given this such a generous gift to the children of Dominica. He marked that it is really a gift to the children of Dominica as they are the main beneficiaries of these investments.
Reportedly, there are total six schools, out of which five are primary schools and one is a secondary school. All of these projects are in continuous progress and are at various stages of construction and completion.
The work is progressing with quality and efficiency. The officials are looking forward for the implementation and completion of the project.
