St Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew has addressed the water crisis that the St Peter’s community is facing. One of the major reasons for the water shortage is the lack of rainfall on the island.
Climate Change has negatively affected the country in several aspects. However, water shortage is something that the community had been struggling with, even before the Drew led administration took office.
The Fourth Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis that the previous administration did not take the water crisis of the community seriously. However, since assuming office, the Drew led administration has been working tirelessly to find lasting solutions for the problems.
PM Drew noted that they can not control climate change and lack of rainfall on the island. However, they still have to come up with solutions to work around the shortage of water which is a basic necessity.
He took to his social media to share all the steps that the St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party government has taken to address the critical shortages. For more than a year, the administration has been working hard to speed up the processes to procure potable water.
The administration has taken several steps to help the St Peter’s Community and other regions in getting through the shortage. The Prime Minister shared that they have sped the drilling process for the Cayon Community.
PM Dr Drew has further started the construction of a desalination plant at the Canada Estate. The leader of the St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party Administration has entered into crucial collaborations to make sure that the project can be completed within a specific time frame.
The administration of Dr Terrance Drew has also purchased water from the Marriot resort to deal with the water shortage in the St Peter’s Community. The Prime Minister acknowledges that the water shortage can disrupt the daily life of the people heavily.
Accordingly, the administration is ensuring that they can come up with long term solutions for the crisis they are facing. The Prime Minister announced that 2 million gallon desal plant which they have constructed in the community will start soon.
Finally, the government has also announced plans to establish a factory to manufacture water tanks. This way, the residents of the affected community can store large quantities of water for prolonged use.
