Colin Ingram, a former South Africa International batsman, announced his retirement from professional cricket on Tuesday, September 22, 2026. He made the announcement online through his official social media handle.
In his social media post, the cricketer shared that cricket had always been his favorite sport and that he had dreamed of playing it from an early age. He further reflected on his 20 years of cricket journey, saying that he had always tried his best to perform at his highest level while embracing the ups and downs that came with life on the field.
Ingram said, “The day has finally arrived to announce my retirement from professional cricket. A shy farm kid grew up having a dream of playing the game he loved. For just 20 years I’ve been fortunate to have lived that everyday.”
He also mentioned that his jersey number, 41, reflects his dream of playing cricket and his successful journey and that he is happy to retire at the age of 41. Ingram said, “41 as my shirt number means dreams and at 41 years old I step away having lived a dream. I leave happy, grateful and content”.
Moreover, he even shared his future goal to embark on a coaching career in Glamorgan Country Cricket Club based in Cardiff, Wales, in the United Kingdom. He was representing the Glamorgan Club as a cricket player from 2015 under the special English county cricket rule “Kolpak” which allows overseas players to represent English counties without being tagged as overseas players.
While representing Glamorgan, Ingram has scored more than 11,000 runs across all formats, including 31 centuries and has also dismissed 67 wickets for the club. Ingram has represented the club for 11 seasons and led the team as a captain in T20 cricket in 2018 and 2019.
Additionally, he started his journey as South Africa international player from 2010 to 2013, in which he played 31 ODIs and 9 T20Is. Apart from being a South African International player he also participated in other franchise across the countries including Abu Dhabi Knight Riders, Aswlaide Strikers, Delhi Capitals, Eastern Province, Free State, Guyana Amazon warriors, Hobart Hurricanes, Islamabad United, Karachi Kings, MI Cape Town, Northern Superchargers, St Lucia Zouks, Trinbago Knight Riders and Pretoria Capitals.
Notably, Ingram will play in Glamorgan’s County Championship match against Essex which is scheduled to take place tomorrow Thursday September 24, 2026 at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff.
