St Kitts and Nevis: The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew recently hosted a stakeholder engagement to discuss citizen security. The stakeholder engagement was attended by members from all major sectors of the nation.

Meeting served as the prelude for the 90-day campaign that will focus on immediate and short-term actions to combat violent crime. The prime minister shared some glimpses from the stakeholder interaction which was hosted on Friday.

The Prime Minister said that the 90-day campaign will focus on gun related crimes which are a major cause of concern. The engagement was attended by persons from the business community, religious institutions, political parties.

The Prime Minister confirmed that all the political parties within the twin island federation were invited. The sports associations, social clubs, senior government officials, and other community-based organizations were also attended the event.

The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis announced that his government is committed to the nation’s fight against crime. Dr Terrance Drew said that they have made and continue to make significant investments in our National Security apparatus.

The administration has been looking into ways to include the people of St Kitts and Nevis can support the efforts to combat crime. The Prime Minister has been partnering with the law enforcement agencies and national organization.

The leaders of the nation have claimed that the issue of crime and violence within the federation needs the support of all the members of the community. The Prime Minister believes that crime needs to be considered as a public health emergency.

As such, the solution must be found in accordance with this approach. PM Drew said that his administration has adopted a holistic approach to violence and crime. They are responding to it as a public health issue.

According to the Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis violence in the society is a disease and it must be treated as such.

The Prime Minister has thus explained that the 90-day campaign will also include a series of National Consultations.  As such, he called on the citizens of St Kitts and Nevis to take an active role in this fight against violence and crime.
