St Kitts: Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew, who is also the Minister of Health in St Kitts and Nevis, recently launched the Renal Transplant programme. Dr Drew wants to make the facilities of transplant and other critical treatments available to renal patients.
The official launch of the Renal Transplant programme took place on Friday, November 24, 2023. The JNF General Hospital was the venue for the event. PM Drew shared some glimpses from the launch ceremony on his facebook page. He also talked about the history and importance of the programme for the people of the country.
Dr Drew believes that the unit will change the life of many patients who were struggling with kidney disease. The patients who need definite treatment for end-stage renal diseases will get the care that they need. The facility was not available to the people of St Kitts and Nevis until recently.
So, they had to travel to destinations away from St Kitts and Nevis to get the life saving treatment. Ever since he assumed the role of the minister of health, he has been working on providing these lifesaving treatments to the patients.
When it comes to renal treatment, the prime minister and his team have secured a number of dialysis machines. He believes that the addition of this equipment will help in saving many lives.
At the launch of the renal transplant unit, PM Drew said that for the first time in St Kitts and Nevis, they are in the position to offer the facility to the people. He is extremely hopeful for the future of this initiative in St Kitts and Nevis.
