St. Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew visited Saint Lucia to have a meeting with the Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The meeting was held during a special sitting held on Monday, June 30, 2025. The gathering was conducted for a working lunch to discuss practical ways to deepen cooperation between Africa and the Caribbean.
PM Drew along with OECS heads of Government and Ministers they are currently in Saint Lucia to observe the official State Visit of Nigerian President. From trade and investment to cultural exchange, the leaders laid the groundwork for a future built on shared heritage and opportunity.
A Powerful Symbolic Visit
Considering his visit, PM Drew stated that he is currently in Saint Lucia for the official State Visit of Nigerian President – Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He expressed that it was an honor for him to join his fellow OECS leaders for a Special Sitting of the Senate and House of Assembly in his honor, as a powerful and symbolic moment that speaks to the deepening bond between Africa and the Caribbean.
Dr. Drew further quoted that – We are one people, connected by history, united by purpose and committed to building a stronger, shared future. This visit by PM Drew is crucial and geopolitically relevant because it is for the first time that President Tinubu has visited the Caribbean.
Significance for Caribbean region and Africa
Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis has shared some glimpses from the visit on his official social media handle, as during his trip to Saint Lucia he claimed that it is important for the Caribbean region and Africa to come up with more areas for collaboration.
According to PM Drew, the two regions have several similar practices in cultures and shared history of colonial rule and slavery. Prime Minister Terrance Drew asserted that they want to come up with ways to deepen collaboration between the two regions.
Furthermore, the decision to organize the 2026 edition of the Afri-Caribbean trade and investment forum is also part of the same mandate. During his visit to Saint Lucia, PM Terrance Drew and OECS leaders are expected to discuss the beginning of projects and initiatives which can benefit both the Caribbean region and Nigeria in equal measure.
