Mauritius: A Memorandum of Agreement was signed (MoA), yesterday, between the Polytechnics Mauritius Limited (PML) and the Private Clinics Association (PCA), in the presence of the Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr Kailesh Kumar Jagutpal in Port Louis.

The MoA sets out terms of understanding between the PML and PCA to enable PML students in Nursing and Allied Health and other fields of interest to have their internship and employment in private clinics. It is recalled that the PCA is made up of some 17 private clinics in the country.

As per the Facebook reports of GIS Mauritius, the MoA also sets out the framework for in-service employees of private clinics to follow short courses or certificate, diploma or advanced and specialist diploma programmes offered by Polytechnics Mauritius.

Speaking on occasion, Dr Jagutpal highlighted the importance of Continued Professional Learning to ensure the delivery of professional services to the public in both the private and the public sectors.

He also spoke of the imperative to motivate students to undergo further studies for the benefit of their career path and for that of patients while emphasizing that sharing and exchanging knowledge are prerequisites for success in the health sector.

The MoA, Dr Jagutpal said, is a concrete example of a win-win situation as the staff of PML will be able to undergo externship programmes in the different private clinics under the aegis of the PCA. It also caters to students to complete their specialised modules and placements in the five regional hospitals, added the Minister.

This is a very good initiative for the career progression of nurses in Mauritius. Civilians thanked the Health and Wellness Minister Jagatpal for supporting the career development of all nurses, including those working in the private sector.
