South Africa: State of the Nation Address (SoNA) 2025 was delivered on Thursday, Feb 06, 2025 by the President Cyril Ramaphosa, during a joint sitting of the two houses of Parliament.
The 2025 SoNA followed the theme ‘A Nation That Works, For All’. The state address marked an important milestone as it brought certainty to the country’s political, social and economic landscape. It demonstrated the robust democracy of the South Africa.
In the address, President Cyril Ramaphosa set the key policies of the government considering their objectives and deliverables for the coming year ahead. It also emphasised upon the flag challenges and outlined the interventions to unlock the potential of the nation.
While delivering the address, President Ramaphosa also highlighted what he achieved since his last address, conducted in 2024. He reflected upon the progress made in implementing the Economic Reconstruction and recovery Plan (ERRP).
President posted an official note on his social media handle and confirmed that the Africa remained at the centre of the foreign policy presented at SoNA 2025.
Ramaphosa exclaimed that they continued to work on strengthening the African Union to support the achievement of peace, development and economic integration on the continent. He enlightened that they knew the future prosperity is inextricably bound to the prosperity of the South African continent. He mentioned that they must silence the guns on the continent, so that Africa can thrive.
Since the advent of democracy, they have been instrumental in restoring the stability in countries such as Cote d’Ivoire, Burundi, South Sudan and Lesotho.
Recently, they have been a part of the SADC peacekeeping mission in Mozambique that has brought relative calm and stability to the Cabo Delgado province. It also affected the presence of South African peacekeepers in the eastern DRC is a testament to the continued commitment to the peaceful resolution of one of the world’s most intractable conflicts, which costed millions of lives and displaced millions of people.
President of South Africa added that, they called on all parties to embrace the current diplomatic efforts to find a peaceful resolution, honouring the Luanda Process. He stated that they will attend the Joint Summit between SADC and the East African Community, too, that is scheduled to take place in Tanzania this weekend, where they will reiterate the call for a ceasefire and a resumption of talks to find a just and will endure the solution.
