Botswana: The Bull Donation exercise initiated by His Excellency Dr Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi in April 2022 has so far donated 21 pedigree bulls to 21 different farmers across the length and breadth of Botswana.
In his continued efforts to improve cattle genetics and increase herd numbers for local farmers, President Masisi this afternoon gifted Mr Gareanna Mompati of Gube Khudi cattle post in the Boteti East Constituency with a young Simmental bull.
Speaking at the brief occasion, His Excellency Dr Masisi reiterated the importance of using farming and cattle rearing in particular to improve livelihoods and to diversify the country’s economy. He further encouraged the recipient, Mr Mompati, to also consider assisting other farmers once his own herd has transformed and multiplied, as that forms part of the initiative’s objectives.
For his part, the jubilant Mompati promised to do all he could to ensure the bull remained safe and productive. He also thanked His Excellency for a great initiative. Mr Mompati started with only two cows back in 1981, which he got as payment from his then employer. He currently has a total of 54 cattle.
In a separate interview, he said he had grown the herd to impressive numbers over the years and benefited handsomely from selling part of his herd. Originally from Serowe, he said he had built three houses in Letlhakane using proceeds from cattle sales. To that end, he encouraged fellow farmers to persist in taking care of their livestock as the results could change their lives.
Yesterday afternoon His Excellency Dr Mokgweetsi E.K Masisi donated the 21st pedigree bull to Mr Gareanna Mompati of Gube Khudi cattle post – Khwee Extension Area, in the Boteti East Constituency.
The residents of Botswana appeared pleased with the initiative, expressing their happiness through comments such as “this will be particularly beneficial for the less fortunate and aid them in agriculture,” while also acknowledging the expenses associated with purchasing bulls and other related costs.
