Kenya: President William Samoei Ruto as the Chairman of the East African Community officially inaugurated the 14th East African Community (EAC) Inter-Parliamentary Games in Mombasa.
The purpose of hosting these games is to foster collaboration and unity among the member states of the East African Legislative Assembly. While it also aims to raise awareness about the EAC integration process and its progress.
The games finally kicked off on Dec 07, 2024. The first game was played by the host Bunge FC, who is Kenya’s parliamentary football team, against the defending champions Uganda parliament.
Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) also shared the glimpses from the 14th edition of the East African Community (EAC) Inter-Parliamentary games.
East African Community (EAC) is a regional intergovernmental organisation that comprises eight partner states Kenya, Burundi, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Uganda, Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The historic ceremony for EAC was attended by the Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir, Principal Secretary of the State Department of Transport Mohamed Daghar, Kenya Ports Authority Chairman Benjamin Tayari and Managing Director of KPA Captain William Ruto.
Earlier, the Mbaraki Sports Club was inspected by the delegates who attended the event, considering the preparation for the official opening ceremony, which was led by the President William Samoei Ruto.
Reportedly, the games were observed at the Mbaraki Sports Complex and the Makande Social Hall. Games such as football, golf, athletics, tug of war, netball, volleyball, basketball and darts were included in EAC.
East African Community Inter-Parliamentary Games (EAC-IPG)
Currently, the 14th edition of the East African Community Inter-Parliamentary Games (EAC-IPG) is being observed in Mombasa County, Kenya from Dec 06 to 18, 2024.
Notably, the opening ceremony of the EAC-IPG 2024 took place on December 07, 2024.
EAC-IPG was established by resolution of the 4th EAC Bureau of Speakers, which was held in 2009. The meeting was held with an objective to resolve and hold Inter-Parliamentary Games for East Africa Community Partner States on an annual and rotational basis.
The major aim of organising such event was to build relations between the East African Community Legislative Assembly (EALA) and the Parliaments of the East African Community region.
