Botswana: The President of Botswana, Mokgweetsi Masisi has left for his trip to Rwanda for the inauguration of Rwanda’s President, Paul Kagame. President Masisi was joined by several Heads of State from across Africa, and Heads of International and Regional Organisations.
The President shared several images from the inauguration ceremony of the Rwandan President. The Vice President of Malawi, President of Kenya and several other leaders made the trip to commemorate the inauguration of President Kagame.
President Mokgweetsi Masisi has returned to Botswana after the conclusion of the inauguration ceremony. Before his departure from Rwanda, President Masisi spoke to the Media of the nation. He expressed his profound gratitude to the Rwandan leadership.
He said that he was delighted to be a part of the inauguration of President Kagame. He also congratulated the president for being sworn into his position for the second tenure in a row.
Preside of the Republic of Botswana Dr. Masisi said it was appropriate to attend the inauguration as a reflection of Botswana’s commitment to strengthen diplomatic ties between the two countries.
The president highlighted that the two nations share a strong and longstanding relationship with each other. The leaders of both these nations have supported each other for the all around development of their respective countries.
The President also endorsed President Kagame’s call for regional peace.
Regarding Rwanda’s 2017 constitutional amendment stipulating a two five-year presidential term limit, Dr. Masisi said the move was consistent with Botswana’s belief in nurturing democracy by introducing such a statutary check and balance in the exercise of power.
When speaking at the occasion of his inauguration, President Kagame thanked the Heads of State and Government in attendance, noting that a majority of them supported Rwanda during the country’s 30-year period of reconstruction and development.
President Kagame was recently given a renewed mandate to lead his country when he won the general elections with a landslide victory against his challengers, Frank Habineza and Philippe Mpayimana
