Joseph Kalimbwe has once again defended the frog eating culture of South Africa. After News Invasion 24 covered his claims, he took it to social media. While defending the South African Culture, he added, “Southern African food, I’m glad journalists are starting to report on our message.”
He added that people should not consider eating frogs otherwise, referring to it as a South African delicacy. Kalimbwe compared eating frogs and eating insects from the sea.
“There is no difference between us who eat frogs and folks who eat insects from the Ocean and call it seafood. Africans love seafood because it was introduced to them by Western Imperialists,” added Joseph Kalimbwe.
Following this, multiple people reacted to his claims, while some agreed and many others disagreed with Joseph Kalimbwe.
A digital creator, Nevanji Munyaradzi Chiondegwa, supported the Zambian politician and wrote, “These people seriously? If its food, its food. I personally don’t eat them but I do know lots of Zimbabweans who eat them and call the dish with different names.”
A public figure, Lazarus Liberty J Haruzivishe, disagreed and commented, “Like Mugabe keep your frogs and eat them there. We have plenty in Zimbabwe you are welcome to come and harvest. There is no competition at all. We don’t eat such creatures. That’s like 1820.”
To which a social media user responded, “Lazarus Liberty J Haruzivishe, in Zim, in Chipinge they eat and I’m sure some other parts of Zim they do eat.”
A popular digital creator, Desmont Makayi also responded to Lazarus Liberty J Haruzivishe and added, “There are parts of Zimbabwe where these frogs are eaten. It’s not every where but there is this big greenish frog called dzetse in Shona. It’s eaten in Zimbabwe in places like Dande Valley.”
A Supper Trapper Artist, Tsholo RSA contradicted and wrote, “Glad we don’t eat shit in South Africa”
To which Phillip Geti Nyakuba, a machine operator at Central African Cables Ltd. responded, “Eating frogs and eating mopani worms is just the same.”
A citizen of Cape Town, with the account name Innocent Kawuyeza reacted, “That’s you saying it’s shit, to someone it’s food. Like what you eat, others don’t eat that, but they don’t say it’s shit If you don’t eat, just say I don’t eat it.”
Another digital creator Beauh Velapy contradicted and wrote in the comment section, “Southern Africa may be poor but we eat plants and few selected meats. Not frogs or snakes or maggots.”
A resident of Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, Shingirai Tadzimirwa wrote a thoughtful comment, “There is nothing bad about eating frogs. Some eat snails, mice/rats, mopano worms and lots more. If you don’t eat what you don’t like, it doesn’t mean every person mustn’t eat it. Just focus on what you eat and leave others eat what they eat simple. I personally don’t eat frogs but I don’t have any problem with those who eat frogs.”
A person living in Harare, Zimbabwe, Stanley Dekeshera commented hilariously with a picture of packed frogs and wrote, “Stocked mine already”
A person living in Windhoek, Namibia, Mapunnya Shea expressed, “We will eat frogs every day. I am from Namibia and I ama proud frog eater.”
Another person, Tich Mangwema Majange, shared a picture of frog dish and wrote, “I ate frog legs in a French-owned restaurant. I have seen frogs on menus in Singapore and South East Asia.”
