Five people have lost their lives in a road traffic accident  which happened in Chisamba District in Central Province

Zambia: Five people have lost their lives in a road traffic accident  which happened in Chisamba District in Central Province. The accident happened in the early morning hours of Monday, with only a single survivor who has escaped unhurt.

The officials have shared that the road accident has shaken the members of the community in Chisamba district. The officials have shared that the accident happened due to the miscalculation of the drivers, one of which overtook the other in an improper manner.

The officials have shared that the accident took place at a curve near Golden Valley along the Great North Road. The accident happened in Chisamba and was confirmed in an interview with the media on Monday afternoon.

The confirmation of the accident came from the Provincial Commissioner of Police Charity Munganga. The officials have shared that the incident happened around 07: 20 hours when a driver of a Sino-truk water bowser Reg. No. AGB 9618  was overtaking improperly.

Provincial Commissioner of Police Munganga said in the process the Sino Truck Water Bowser collided with a Toyota Vitz, Reg. No.  BAG 2972 driven by Bwalya Kasonde, aged 32 of Chilanga in Lusaka.

She disclosed that the Vitz was coming from the direction of Lusaka and met  the Sino truck that was supplying water to the company constructing the dual carriage road. The accident has been taken as an unfortunate event which could have easily been prevented if the drivers had paid attention to the road rules.

The officials have shared that it is important for the leaders continue to sensitize the drivers about their road etiquettes.

The  Provincial Commissioner of Police explained that the driver of the Toyota Vitz and three passengers died on the spot, while the fourth passenger died whilst receiving treatment at Liteta Hospital.

She, however, said the driver of the Sino truck escaped unhurt. His current location can not be confirmed. Munganga added that the five bodies have been deposited in Liteta Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem.
