On January 28, Rwanda announced that they are finally ready to open its Ugandan land border after three years of continuous closure. The borders will open at the end of January month, a breakthrough to re-establish the relations between the two nations.

The move follows a visit to Kigali last weekend by Ugandan President “Yoweri Museveni’s” powerful son of “Muhoozi Kainerugaba”, during which he and Rwandan President “Paul Kagame” promised to restore their relations.

The border between the two nations last closed in February 2019 as political tensions were going on between these two nations.

According to the Rwanda foreign Minister, the border between the nation will open at the end of this month on January 31.

He added that there is still the possibility that the government has taken note that there is a proper procedure in order to solve the issues raised by the government of Rwanda and some commitments made by the Ugandan government.

Moreover, the Rwanda government stays committed to its ongoing efforts to fix the uncertain issues among Rwanda and Uganda and showed his belief that today’s announcement indeed contributes positively towards improving the relations between the two nations.

However, no immediate comment came from the side of the Uganda government, but they retweeted the statement of the Rwandan government.

Moreover, Kainerugaba is gossiped to be placing himself as a possible legatee to his 77-year-old father, who has ruled Uganda since 1986.

Museveni and Kagame were closed supporters in 1980-1990 during the battle for power in their respective countries before becoming bitter enemies.

For its parts, Uganda also blamed in the case of spying as well as killing two members during an attack into an Uganda territory in 2019.

In December, the United States slapped boycotters on Kondiho and accused one of their members in order to be involved in human rights abuses such as beatings and sexual harassment.

No meetings are held between the two nations as a pandemic is going on worldwide.
