Cape Town: The South African National Team of Cricket Men ‘Proteas’ is in town, as they arrived ahead of their one-day international match against the Pakistan national team this week. The City of Cape Town would like to enlighten on the logistics for the game.
SA Proteas men will play against Pakistan in the second ODI at Newlands Cricket Ground on Thursday, Dec 19, 2024. The match forms a great part of a bilateral three-game ODI series between the two nations.
Pakistan will lead the currently ongoing series 1-0 following a win at Boland Park in Paarl on Tuesday evening and the Proteas need to win on Thursday to avoid defeat in the series.
Member of the Mayoral Committee for Safet and Security – Alderman JP Smith said that the City of Cape Town is thrilled to host the Proteas and Pakistan for the summer cricket in the beautiful city.
Smith stated that they welcome both teams and the travelling fans to the Mother City for what is shaping up to be an exciting battle.
Notably, Cape Town has become synonymous with the summer of cricket considering the Newlands Cricket Ground’s rich history of hosting international cricket since the late 1800s. The city is working with the event organisers to put measures in place which ensures that they can get spectators to and from the stadium safely to experience a memorable cricket spectacle.
The gates will open at 12:00 noon wit the first ball bowled at 2:00 p.m. Spectators visiting the game can find parking at Groote Schuur High School, Groote School High Lower Field and Groote Schuur Primary School.
A dedicated drop-off and collection point has been identified on the Corner of Palmyra and Campground Roads. A reminder for fans, residents and motorists that Campground Road will be closed from the corner of Campground and Mariendahl Roads to Palmyra Road from 12:00 noon until 11:00 p.m.
Motorists are advised to not stop at the following roads and let traffic keep moving to avoid any kind of Jam or stuck of vehicles:

- Palmary Road between Mona Crescent and Mariendahl Avenue

- Lettersted Road to Main Road (North Bound)

- Main Road between Boundary Road and Lettersted Road (South Bound)
- Main Road from Lettersted Road to Camp Ground Road (South Bound)
- Main Road from Glenhof to Spring Water Drive Way (North Bound)
- Palmyra Road in front of Groote Schuur High (Embayment)
Both the national cricket teams will return Cape Town and will play again in the New Year for the traditional New Year’s Test at Newlands from Jan 03, 2025. Logistics for the series will be announced soon in due course.
