Mozambique: The Director of Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Affairs, Professor Kula Ishmael Theletsane, accompanied by Chief of Staff of the Organ and acting head of SADC Planning Element Brigadier General Raymond Ndwandwe and SADC Senior Officer Public Security Kealeboga Moruti paid a courtesy call to SAMIM Acting Force Commander Brigadier General Gaboratanelwe L. Tshweneetsile on 30 October 2023.
The purpose of the visit was to appreciate the operational activities of SAMIM members and their contribution to this mission. Director Theletsane and his delegation received a detailed security overview and operational activity brief on SAMIM Force Operations.
Together with the Acting Force Commander, the delegation visited the Botswana Contingent Camp, where the Director addressed the officers and troops. He also visited the Level II Hospital to appreciate the recently launched psychology lab and developments made in terms of renovations by the European Union and to view some of the EU-donated medical equipment.
In a closed session with the director and senior military officials, Brig Gen Tshweneetsile expressed appreciation for the visit to the Force HQ and thanked the director for believing in the cause and stability efforts. The Force Chief of Staff, Col. F.P. Mokou, also expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the director for taking the time to visit and providing guidance to further motivate members in accomplishing the mission.
In his closing remarks, Director Theletsane thanked SAMIM Forces for their excellent work and congratulated them on the gains made so far despite the odds. He further encouraged members to be strong, courageous, and to care for one another during the mission to ensure continued peace and stability in Cabo Delgado Province.
The SAMIM Force is grateful to Director Theletsane for finding time to visit the mission area. The visit portrays SADC’s commitment to continue safeguarding Mozambique’s people and ensuring peace is restored in Cabo Delgado Province.
