Mauritius: The Executive Secretary of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), Mr Elias M. Magosi, paid a courtesy call today at the New Treasury Building in Port Louis on the Prime Minister, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth.
In a statement, Mr Magosi highlighted that this is his first visit to Mauritius and that the meeting was an opportunity to introduce himself as the SADC Executive Secretary to Prime Minister Jugnauth. Discussions, he pointed out, focused on several topics, such as integration; the consolidation of peace and security; and intra-trade within Member States in the region.
Mr Magosi observed that the meeting was also an opportunity for Prime Minister Jugnauth and himself to share views on how SADC can assist island States such as Mauritius, Seychelles, and Comoros in protecting themselves and withstand issues related to climate change. He also listened to propositions from Prime Minister Jugnauth on how SADC can assist the region in moving forward.
Furthermore, he informed that he also had a meeting with the President of the Republic of Madagascar prior to his visit to Mauritius.
It is recalled that Mr Magosi is a national of the Republic of Botswana who was sworn in on 18 August 2021 as the Seventh SADC Executive Secretary at the 41st SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government held in Lilongwe, Republic of Malawi. He assumed his position on 1 September 2021.
