Malawi: Salima Sugar Company Limited has donated assorted items to women living around the company premises. The donation was made in the commemoration of mothers day in  Malawi. The company sought to honour their love, resilience and unwavering support of the women in protecting the company.

The celebration was hosted at Salima Sugar premises. The spouse to Salima Sugar Executive Chairperson, Alice Kosamu said women are the hearts of families and communities.

She said that they are responsible for nurturing, inspiring and guiding the communities on how things are supposed to be done. As such  the company felt the need to celebrate them on their day.

“Our mandate is to celebrate with mothers from all corners of the company surroundings, women from senior chief Khombedza, Makanjira and Mwanza. We celebrate with them annually and give them assorted items as a thank you for the good things they do for the workers of the company,” she said.

Kosamu highlighted that the items would empower the recipients to help their families accordingly. The leader also urged them to make sure the women to be at the forefront in protecting and bringing out perpetrators who destroy and vandalize the company’s property.

“Those who vandalize or destroy the property of this company are men from our homes. But we have to know that the company is benefiting us all therefore we need to take care of it, protect it and report anyone who vandalizes the properties. If the properties are vandalized we will be the ones to suffer,” she added.

Senior Chief Mwanza extended her support to Alice and said, the company is helping families living in surrounding areas who work at the company and therefore called for unity and ownership in protecting the company.

“I am so happy today seeing Salima Sugar organizing this event for women. In the past we used to go to other districts to celebrate this day. But now it’s been three years since the company started gathering all women surrounding the company to celebrate and enjoy the fruits of our company,” she said.

She further said what the company is doing to the women will enhance women’s participation and contribution to the activities of the company because they are now benefitting from it.

Earlier in the day, Salima Sugar also donated medical equipment to Salima District Hospital.

The company has spent K28 million on donations and the Mother’s Day celebration.
