Malawi: Sand Music Events Festival team has announced that they are cancelling the 2024 event after the death of their CEO. The event was scheduled for September 27th to 29th at Sunbird Nkopola Hotel in Mangochi.
The deceased Sir Lucius Banda, Chief Executive Officer for Impakt Events and Chairman for Sand Music Festival and Sand Arts Festival events. The organizers believe that in honor of his passing, the 2024 edition of the annual event should be cancelled.
The Sand Music Events Festival team made this known through a public announcement in the media. The team said, Sir Lucius Banda was more than just a leader as he was the driving force behind the festival’s success.
He had transformed the Sand Music Festival into a vibrant celebration of music, culture, and togetherness. This, he had done through his passion, dedication, and relentless pursuit of excellence
“It is with an indescribable heaviness in our hearts that we must share the news of the cancellation of the Sand Music Festival 2024.” The team express their profound sadness on the death of their leader.
The organizers believe that it would be a disservice for the deceased head of the company if they proceeded with the festival so soon after his death
The organisers said that they are sad for the fans as they are announcing the cancellation. They said they acknowledged the disappointment that the news will bring to thousands of fans. The team thanked the fans for their support, noting that their excitement, loyalty, and unwavering support have been the lifeblood of the festival.
The organizers promised that the festival will return in 2025. The 2025 event will take place over the course of three days for the weekend of September 26th to 28th.
The organizers said that they will announce the details of the venue and lineup in due course at a later date.
Some fans on social media agreed with the organizers’ decision to cancel the event.
The fans added that this will give them enough time to organize a befitting event to honor the legend.
On the other hand, majority of the fans have shown their disappointment upon hearing the announcement. They reasoned that the managers of the event have missed an opportunity to bring together fans and loved ones to honor Sir Lucius Banda.
