Cape Town: The city is filled with excitement this week, including fun and epic activities that are lined up comprised of football, music and kites. All of this will be featured in the upcoming fests i.e. Cape Town Country Music Festival, Coke Cup Finals at Athlone Stadium and Cape Town International Kite Festival Pop-Up Fly at Melkbosstrand Beach.
City of Cape Town’s Events Permit Office has permitted 39 events, that are going to be held this week. Some of the highlights to be considered are:
Soccer Events
This week, Cape Town is hosting grassroots football, Premier Soccer league football, the kite festival and a music festival on back-to-back days, to name a few.
39 Permitted Events
Further, there are 39 permitted events are anticipated to attract more than 105,000 spectators and participants. Cape Town CBD and surroundings are expected to be busy over the weekend with at least nine events taking place on Saturday and Sunday.
Member of the Mayoral Committee for Safety and Security – Alderman JP Smith said that they are heading into a busy season of events in Cape Town, especially around the CBD area
These uptick events represent several opportunities for SMMEs, hotels, restaurants, retail, suppliers, artists and general workers who received benefit from the greater events ecosystem.
Smith expressed, “We hope that the residents and visitors will take advantage of the good weather and get a chance to experience the entertainment, vibrancy and energy that is brought by the events in Cape Town.”
“We also understand that the events have an impact on the roads and some residential areas. For which, the City of Cape Town’s events teams work closely with event organizers to mitigate the effect on traffic and on businesses,” said Alderman JP Smith.
Cape Town Country Music Festival
The two-day Cape Town Country Music Festival, will take place at the DHL Stadium, leading a busy weekend of events in the city centre and surroundings. The festival will feature eight international country artists and ten local country artists, for more than two days on October 26 and 27, 2024.
Billed as the largest Country Music Festival in the world ‘outside the United States’, patrons can expect performances from some of the biggest names involving the Zac Brown Band, Kip Moore, Brothers Osborne, Craig Morgan and many more.
Coke Cup Finals
The SAFA Cape Town Coke Cup Finals is the pinnacle of amateur football in the Mother City and is taking place at Athlone Stadium on Saturday, October 26, 2024. It is a platform for emerging footballers.
The tournament pits together 580 senior men’s clubs, 82 senior ladies clubs along with 340 youth clubs over six months of competition. The finals will see the top two teams in each category, who will be battling for the opportunity to be crowned as champions and win some prize money at the tournament.
The 2024 U-18 final will see Antalyaspor JPM Cape Town going straight-up against Hanover Park FC at 01:00 p.m. The ladies final game will be a battle between UCT and Philippi’s Dangerous Heroes Football, that will be observed at 04:30 p.m.
Mitchells Plain’s FC Tafelzucht and Parow’s Vasco Da Gama will be playing as decider in the senior men’s final match, at 06:30 p.m. Tickets are available at Quicket for as little as R10. Spectators can also purchase tickets at SAFA Cape Town’s office, situated in Johnston Road, Rygate. The Gates will open at 12:00 noon.
Cape Town City FC
The Citizens will be in Betway Premiership action against Limpopo-based Magesi FC at Athlone Stadium on Sunday, October 27, 2024.
The game forms part of Cape Town City’s #FreeFootballForAll initiative with the City of Cape Town, which allows free access to 10,000 fans for eight home league games at Athlone Stadium.
Free tickets for the game can be collected at Cape Town City’s offices at 54 Shortmarket Street, Cape Town CBD during game week or at the Athlone Stadium ticket office on game day. It will kickoff at 03:00 p.m.
Cape Town International Kite Festival
As part of Mental Health Awareness, Cape Mental Health will host its Cape Town International Kite Festival Pop-Up Fly this weekend. It will held at Melkbosstrand Beach on Sunday, October 27, 2024.
The event will encourage the residents and visitors to fly kites of all shapes and sizes for mental health awareness. Additionally, the event offers a safe space for people to speak openly about mental health and their lived experiences of mental health.
Through the 2024 theme, “Hope On A String”, the kite festival aims to break barriers, prejudices and stigma surrounding mental health and ultimately offering hope and support to those who need it. The Pop-Up Fly will run from 10:00 a.m. until 03:00 p.m. at Melkbosstrand Beach.
