South Africa: A man was shot to death during a robbery attempt at a scrap metal business in Amoutana – KZN. The robbery suspects opened fire at the scrap metal business in the afternoon  hours of Sunday.

The owner of the business, who was at his workplace at the time of the robbery discovered that one of the metal collectors struck by the bullet. The members of the community who were in the same scrap metal yard reached out to the reaction Unit South Africa asking for help.

The Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received a call for medical assistance for the injured male at approximately 16:43. Reaction Officers & RUSA Paramedics were immediately dispatched to the property which the robbery suspects targeted on Rambokhoza Road.

After the team arrived in the neighbourhood, RUSA Members were directed down an embankment. They started the examination of the victim, and established that he had sustained a gunshot wound to his chest. He had died before the First Responders and Reaction officers could reach.

Reaction Officers later talked to the witnesses of the robbery incident who had managed to save themselves. According to the witnesses, many of the scrap metal workers and customers of the business were in the yard. At this point, two  suspects randomly opened fire on them  with the aim of robbing the business.

Customers and the owner of the business fled into a nearby bush trying to protect themselves from the onslaught of bullets.

Taking advantage of the situation, the robbers entered the residence and stole R2000 from the business in cash. Afterwards, the suspects fled the scene. It could not be established where they went afterwards

The owner of the business discovered that one of the scrap metal collectors was shot and contacted RUSA for assistance. The reaction officers have not been able to trace the suspects yet and no arrests have been made.

Meanwhile, the members of the community have shared that the leadership of the country have shared their condolences on the death of the victim. They hoped that his family would have the patience and strength to deal with the loss.
