Senegal marked the Independence Day in April and celebrated the day proudly. African Export Import Bank (Afreximbank) also greeted all on the occasion and wished them a very Happy Independence Day.

Senegalese celebrate their Independence Day on date April 04, every year. This year in 2025 Senegal welcomed 65th anniversary of independence with a grand parade on Mamadou Dia Boulevard in the capital of Dakar, who are presided over by the West African country’s President Bassirou Diomaye Faye.
President Faye was joined by the several foreign dignitaries, including Guinea-Bissau President – Umaro Sissoco Embalo, Gambian President – Adama Barrow, Mauritanian President – Mohamed Ould Cheikh Ghazouani and Nigerian Vice President – Kashim Shettima. Members of the Senegalese government and accredited diplomats also attended the gathering.
This year the theme for the Independence Day commemoration was ‘Toward Technological and Industrial Sovereignty of Defense and Security Forces’. The parade of year 2025 saw a total of 6,092 participants from military, paramilitary and civilian sectors march before the officials.
Earlier, Faye delivered a national address on the eve of the celebration, hailing Senegal’s democratic maturity and reaffirming his commitment to deeply transforming the country after 65 years of Independence.
Faye further stated that now they must harness the driving force to correct what needs fixing and to shape the aspirations of the people and the hopes of the youth. He emphasized the ambitions of his administration to make an uncompromising assessment of the national economic situation to implement deep structural reforms.
He also said that the reforms will include optimizing local finances, ensuring budgetary transparency, rationalizing public spending and managing debt efficiently to safeguard the fiscal sustainability.
President of Senegal – Bassirou Diomaye Faye concluded his statement by saying, “Guided by the ideal of a free, sovereign, just and prosperous Senegal, successive advances in rights and freedoms that have laid the foundation for a thriving democratic model.” Leading the Independence Day, Faye also renamed the parade venue Mamadou Dia Boulevard, in honor of the country’s first prime minister.
