Zambia: Some residents of Shabusale Ward in Kafue District have expressed their concern over the insecurity situation in the area. The community has shared that many members have been concerned by the continuous attacks by youth delinquents, infamously called junkies.
One of the people in the Shabusale Ward has talk ed to the media about the situation which is currently affecting the community. They informed that the situation is escalating due to many youngsters not going to schools or having good jobs.
One of the residents of the community, Faith Ngwenya reasoned that a number of young people in the area are not going to school. Instead, these youngsters prefer to indulge in vices such as beer drinking, ingesting hard drugs, as well as prostitution.
Ngwenya accuses authorities of not doing enough to ensure that such activities are curbed, resulting in many attacks on locals. The residents have shared that they expect the authorities to take strict action on the situation.
Meanwhile, another resident of the Shabusale Ward also shared their views on the situation. Bright Habeenzu says it is saddening to see youths engaging themselves in criminal activities and prostitution.
He has called on relevant authorities to think of measures that will bring a halt to such activities, which are slowly becoming a norm in the area.
The media persons also reached out to contact Shabusale Ward Councilor, Modester Nyambe for a comment. At this point, Nyambe confirmed the existence and increase of youth delinquents in the area.
He has, however, accused parents of aiding their children’s bad behaviour; he noted that most of them go to authorities to ask for the release of their children who would have been detained for wrongdoing.
The country’s people have shared their concerns about the situation and asked the parents to guide their children towards a better path. The youngsters of the ward must be sensitized on the importance of education and seeking employment for their bright future.
