Zambia: Sinazongwe District has received 6000 bags of relief Maize from the government of the country to help the district in fighting food shortage. The District Commissioner Nchimunya Siakole made the announcement in a media interaction.
According to the administration, they are struggling with the dry season which has resulted in crop failure and the shortage of food. The government is working hard to rectify the situation for the benefit of the people and assist them.
The officials have shared that they are dedicated to making sure that the people of the country are not affected by the shortages. They are supporting the country’s vulnerable populations with donations and food aid.
The District Commissioner of Sinazongwe District, Siakole, explained that the maize would be distributed to the local people under different criteria. The priority will be given to the most vulnerable families of the district and so on.
The issue of Mealie meal shortage has also been addressed by the administration of Zambia. According to the district commissioner, the Zambia National Service-ZNS, has been engaged to supply their Eagle branded mealie meal.
This step has been taken in light of the shortages of mealie meals in the district.,
The District Commissioner further noted the steps they have taken to ensure that mealie meals are not exploited. The administration has devised price control mechanisms to ensure that the Eagle Mealie Meal is not priced above K250.
Meanwhile, the District Commissioner has noted that the government is working on revamping Irrigation Schemes in the area. The administration’s irrigation schemes had not been working for several years.
Now, the schemes have been restarted to ensure Winter crops can be grown. Earlier, Chief Government Spokesperson, Cornelius Mweetwa, said government will continue rolling out distribution of relief food across the country.
Mweetwa, who is also a Choma Central Constituency Member of Parliament, stated during a Press Briefing Wednesday evening that the district has also received 2,000 bags of relief food so far.
