South Africa: The Kwazulu-Natal Transport Department, through Sipho Hlomuka, extended heartfelt wishes on Easter 2024. At the same time, the department asked the people of the province to remain cautious during the celebration.
The event is an annual commemoration of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Easter is a time of prayer and celebration for the followers of the faith of Christianity. The officials have shared that the members of the community host several events to commemorate the event.
The administration has further observed that the celebrations are often associated with the most fatalities in the country. The number of road traffic accidents across the province witness a sharp spike during and around the festivals.
This spike can be attributed to the fact that people become less careful while driving after the celebrations. Ahead of the Easter holidays, the KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Sipho Hlomuka shared a heartfelt message for safety.
He has asked the people of the Province to continue adhering to the traffic rules and refrain from speeding. The authorities have urged the country’s people to change their ways and prioritise their safety.

He urged the country’s people to take regular breaks while driving and wear seatbelts while driving. Further, the authorities have shared that they will deploy officials at strategic locations across the province for the duration of the festive weekend.
The step is being taken for the compliance of rules and safety of road users. The people of the country have appreciated the gesture of the Department of Transport.
