Mauritius: The government of Mauritius hosted an official ceremony to present the six qualified Para Athletes representing the nation at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. The ceremony for the presentation of the athletes was held at the Côte d’Or National Sports Complex.
The served as an opportunity for the people of the country to send their best wishes to the Para athletes before their competition. The officials have have shared several images from the event on their respective social media accounts.
On that occasion, the Para Athletes’ outfits for the Paralympics were revealed. Further, Noemi Alphonse, the World Champion in the 100 meters and Vice-World Champion in the 400 meters in the T54 category, was named as the flag bearer for the Games.
The presentation event was attended by several government officials. The list of guests included:
- The Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation, Jean Christophe Stephan Toussaint
- The President of the Mauritius Paralympic Committee, Jean Marie Malepa
- The President of the Association HOPE, Dominique Filleul
Several other officials were also present at the event.
In his address, Minister Toussaint congratulated the six Para Athletes who have been qualified to participate in the Paralympic Games in Paris. The officials have shared that the they were happy to see the lineup of athletes representing Mauritius.
He expressed his appreciation for the youngsters of Mauritius, noting that they embody the honour and beauty of the nation.
The presentation pf the athletes coincided with the celebration of International Youth Day. The day is celebrated annually on August 12.
At the event the Minister took the opportunity to highlight the important role played by the youngsters in the nation’s development. He encouraged the Para Athletes to give their best performance and called upon the population to fully support them.
Minister Toussaint also thanked the sponsors for their vital role in making this achievement possible. He thanked both the private and public sectors in supporting the welfare of Para Athletes and the youth.
He said that the stakeholders have played a very important role in the success of the athletes.
Further Malepa expressed that he was proud and satisfied to see the hard work of the Para Athletes. He also appreciated Minister Toussaint for his unwavering support to the athletes of Mauritius.
He assured that this is not the end, as many more achievements will be realised to establish Mauritius as a recognised nation in the field of sports.
