Mauritius: SME Mauritius organised its annual fashion show in a bid to allow trainees to express their creativity and to offer a platform for them to acquire real life public appreciation experience yesterday, at the Hills Hall and Banquet, in Ecroignard.
The Theme retained this year was “Inspiration from Tradition”. The Minister of Industrial Development, SMEs and Cooperatives, Soomilduth Bholah, and other personalities were present on occasion.
In a statement, the Minister recalled that during this event, the theoretical knowledge trainees had acquired over 20 weeks in the SME outstations around the island, such as Rose Belle, Bel Air and Goodlands, was put into practice.
He indicated that some 120 trainees of SME Mauritius, namely: garment making, eco-bag making, beauty care and grooming, floral and event, nail art and tech courses, demonstrated their skills and techniques during the fashion show.
Moreover, Bholah highlighted that this event aimed at promoting the trainees’ newly gained understanding and mastery of techniques which stimulated their creativity, their innovativeness and provided them with the necessary confidence to start their own businesses.
He underscored that a key indicator of the relevance and currency of training courses offered by SME Mauritius resides in the ability of trainees to enterprise their knowledge and produce profitably for markets under the mentorship of their respective trainers.

This Fashion Show was organised with the objective of allowing SME Mauritius’s trainees to express their creativity, decide on their positioning, stand the scrutiny of the public eye, and ready themselves to face customer choices.
More than 50 creative models of garments and bags for different occasions based on the chosen Theme were showcased and adapted to existing models and traditional dresses with modern style.
This SME Mauritius Fashion Show was a unique opportunity for the public to discover how we can inspire ourselves from tradition through a range of blended styles, cross-stitched skirts, evening gowns, dashing duffel bags, visually-arresting accessories and traditional Indian-style dresses coupled with modern twist, amongst others.
Moreover, this edition comprised a full run with eco-bags designed and made by trainees of SME Mauritius from Rodrigues. These bags were made from raw materials available on the island blended with modern materials.
